INGEST | IMPORT | TRANSCODE | ENCODE

There are major differences between ingesting, importing footage, as well difference between transcode and encode.

Transcode - the process of converting a video file from one format to another to make videos viewable across different platforms.

IE; when receiving raw footage from the field after accepting the footage logging and backing up we TRANSCODE the footage to an EDITABLE format to use assigned edit software platform.

Media Composer coverts footage to .MXF wrapper, however Avid has incorporated Pro Res Codec and has the ability to CONSOLIDATE footage (see Media Composer Consolidate page - soon to come)

As of late PROXY WORKFLOWs have been established due to large video resolution formats. 2K, 4K resolution sizes will be TRANSCODED to a lower more edit system manageable codec.

The CODEC DU JOUR for the FiveAnDime Edit Ecosystem Premiere Pro are;
APPLE PRO RES PROXY - smaller file size requires less storage space 45Mbps
APPLE PRO RES 422 - 147Mbps
APPLE PRO RES 4444 - 330Mbps

Choosing your codec should be based on distribution of final output and storage space avails.
